We use only Glucosamine HCL instead of sulfate for several key reasons. Although many formulas use Glucosamine Sulfate most research that has been done concludes that Glucosamine Sulfate is unstable when exposed to moisture and generally degrades. In an attempt to stabilize the product it also contains high amounts of Sodium and Potassium. This can pose a problem for a patient on a Sodium or Potassium restricted diet. Another problem associated with the sulfate varieties is that do not provide as much active Glucosamine. For example, the equivalent 1,500 mg dose of glucosamine HCL in the Sulfate salt is 2,095 mg. We only use capsules for this preparation. Tablets are cheaper, but in some cases the amount of pressure used on the tablets prevents them from fully dissolving before they are excreted by the body, thus wasting the dose.
