Description
Ingredients
Germ Defense, Like Airborne, for Cold & Flu is a Dietary Supplement that contains 7 herbal extracts, antioxidants, electrolytes, amino acids, 1,000 mg of Vitamin C and more. The effervescent technology offers 100% immediate absorption. For maximum benefit, it should be taken before entering a crowded environment.
Suggested Use: At the first sign of cold symptoms, simply drop (1) tablet in a small amount of plain water, let dissolve (about 1 minute) and drink. Repeat every three hours as necessary. Children should take one half tablet. Pregnant women or people on medication should consult a physician before taking this or any other products.

Airborne and Germ Defense Comparison
Preventing the Common Cold and Other Viruses
Many people rely on health products and over-the-counter medicines to treat colds and flu after the symptoms have become full-blown. The strategy behind health products such as the trademarked Airborne and Germ Defense relies on taking proactive steps in preventing the common cold and germs associated with high risk situations.
In a product comparison between Germ Defense, manufactured by Quality Care, and the trademarked, and popular Airborne brand, I put both to the test. Germ Defense is a generic version of Airborne, as noted on the package label in a "compare to Airborne ingredients" statement. Naturally, Airborne will cost a few dollars more, at an estimated $5-8 per package of 10 tablets, versus $4-5 for the Quality Care brand.
Product Details
Airborne and Germ Defense are essentially a vitamin/herbal blend designed to boost the immune system in high risk situations for airborne viruses. Germ Defense and Airborne are similar in listing schools, airplanes, theaters, offices, restaurants, and health clubs as potential hotbeds for airborne viruses.
The other purpose for purchasing Airborne or Germ Defense is to prevent cold symptoms from developing further at the first sign of a sniffle or cough. I purchased Airborne before an airplane ride to a vacation destination, and most recently, decided to try Germ Defense after my son began to complain of a sore throat and other cold symptoms. Both products might be considered a form of taking out some "health insurance" as a prevention strategy against airborne viruses.
Ingredients
Airborne and Germ Defense have almost identical ingredients in their respective product. Germ defense lists the following ingredients: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Riboflavin, Magneseum, Zinc, Selenium, Manganese, Potassium, Herbal Extracts (Lonicera, Forsythia, Schizopeta, Ginger, Chinese Vitex, Istatis Root, and Echinacea). Amino Acids (L-Glutamine and L-Lyasine) are also listed as ingredients.
There are 10 dissolvable tablets in the package, that must be disolved in a small glass of hot or cold water before drinking. Airborne and Germ Defense use an effervescent formula for quick absorbtion.
Adults can take one tablet every three hours, as needed, and children can take 1/2 tablet as needed. The orange flavor tasted similar to a tart class of Tang, with a slight medicinal kick at the end.
Airborne and Germ Defense Comparison
There was little difference between the compostion of Airborne and Germ Defense, and even less difference in effectiveness. Both seemed to give my immune system the boost that it needed for travel, in one case, and to prevent catching my son's cold in the other. In both situations, I felt better after taking the products the next day. Part of this outcome could be psychological, however. I felt that the psychological benefits of knowing that I was attempting to prevent contacting airborne viruses and germs was worth the money spent.
Airborne and Germ Defense are convenient vitamin and herbal formulas designed to boost the immune symptom. There are alternative methods, but both Airborne and Germ Defense are a convenient method for taking a proactive measure against looming airborne viruses and the common, contagious colds of the cold and flu season.
